Accessibility Statement

Our commitment

This statement applies to www.centralsafetyinspections.co.uk. We are a small business and this is not a public sector site, so the public sector accessibility regulations do not apply to us. We take the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines seriously regardless, because a site that is hard to use is simply a badly built site.

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. We believe the site substantially meets that standard, and the known exceptions are listed below.

What we have done

• □Text and background colours are chosen to meet or exceed the contrast ratios required at level AA, with body copy set in a deep tone rather than the mid-blue accent.
• □The site works at 200% browser zoom and reflows to a single column on narrow screens without loss of content or horizontal scrolling.
• □Every page uses a proper heading structure — one H1, then H2 and H3 in order — so screen reader users can navigate by heading.
• □All interactive elements are reachable and operable with a keyboard alone, and keyboard focus is shown with a visible outline rather than being suppressed.
• □The accordion controls on the FAQ and home page are real buttons, so they announce themselves correctly and respond to Enter and Space.
• □Links describe where they go rather than saying "click here".
• □Text is real text rather than pictures of text, so it can be resized, restyled or read aloud.
• □The site does not rely on colour alone to convey meaning, and there is no flashing or auto-playing content.
• □Body text is set at 16px or larger, with generous line spacing and a maximum line length for readability.

Known limitations

We are honest about where the site falls short. At present:

• □Animations play when a page loads and as content scrolls into view. These are brief and subtle, but we have not yet added support for the "reduce motion" setting in your operating system. We intend to.
• □Photographs added to the site may not always carry descriptive alternative text immediately. Where an image is decorative this is correct; where it carries information it is a fault and we will fix it on request.
• □The equipment search on the home page updates results as you type without announcing the change to screen reader users.
• □Data tables are used for inspection intervals. They are simple two and three column tables, but they do not yet carry scope attributes on their header cells.

Alternatives — always available

If any part of this website prevents you from getting the information you need, telephone 07971 571 275 or email andy@centralsafetyinspections.co.uk and we will give you the same information directly. That includes quoting for work, explaining what inspections your equipment needs, and reading out or resending any content on the site in a different format.

You never have to use the website to become a customer. The telephone works perfectly well and you will get the engineer rather than a menu system.

If you find an accessibility problem, please tell us. Email andy@centralsafetyinspections.co.uk with the page address and a description of the difficulty, or telephone 07971 571 275. We will acknowledge within five working days and tell you what we intend to do about it.

We would genuinely rather hear about it than not. A fault we do not know about is a fault we cannot fix.

How we test

This site is tested manually with keyboard-only navigation, at 200% and 400% zoom, and on mobile screen sizes. Colour contrast is checked against the WCAG formula. We review accessibility as part of our periodic review of the website, and whenever we add new pages or change how something works.
