Pressure system examinations across Derby
Almost every workshop in Derby has a compressor, and a good proportion of them have never had the receiver examined. Not through negligence — simply because it sits in a corner, runs without complaint, and nobody has ever told the owner it is a pressure system with statutory duties attached to it.
Under PSSR 2000 the system must not be operated unless a Written Scheme of Examination is in place and the system has been examined in accordance with it. The scheme comes first: it is the document an inspector asks for before any examination report. If the stored energy exceeds 250 bar litres — pressure in bar times volume in litres — you are in scope, and most receivers of any real size are.
Where a scheme exists but came with the building, we review it against the plant as installed today. Pipework gets altered, receivers get moved and safety valves get replaced with different set pressures; a scheme that no longer describes the system is not compliance. Where there is no scheme, we draw one up.
