An eyebolt into rotten timber or spalled concrete will pull out under load whatever its own condition, which is why the examination looks at the fixing and what it is fixed to, not just the ring.

Personal equipment gets the standard treatment: detailed inspection at least every six months, three where use is arduous, tagged and logged per item against its serial number.
